SFP sponsored the second annual Farm Journal Wheat College held in Manhattan, Kan. on Jan. 27 and in Bismarck, N.D. on Feb. 9. This agronomic training event provided growers with tips and tools to fine-tune their management, using the systems approach to increase production.
Missy Bauer, Farm Journal associate field agronomist, and Phil Needham, Farm Journal columnist, presented the fundamentals for achieving high wheat yields relative to their geographic region. Growers learned about growth and development; stand evaluation and plant health; nitrogen applications and the keys for timing and rates; nitrogen application forms and stabilizers, and yield threats with scouting procedures. The event concluded with a question and answer session, in which growers discussed topics covered and other issues in their operations.
